Our first assignment in Illustration II this semester was to illustrate a single word, and to do it in a way so that it wasn't blatant nor achingly subtle. The word crocodiles kept cycling through my head- not as the word to illustrate, but as the subject matter- and so I chose "awkward" as my word and came up with the idea of a crocodile businessman bring home a wildebeest friend from work only to find his wife preparing exactly that for dinner. Heh. Awkward.

Here's Kaneshia dressed in a traditional Ventallian forest guardian uniform. With her are two animal companions, and a ceremonial scythe (don't run with it). The Ventallians are a more traditional culture on Cervidia that has served as guardians of the Sacred Forests. Living close to the land, they are the gatekeepers of the Sacred Forest, monitoring the comings and goings of the many pilgrims who journey there.

An inked drawing of Kaneshia in sexy lingerie. This is based on an older drawing done several years ago. Notes on the process: I ink the candles in color so that the light from the candles and the translucent wax will show up when the scene is colored. Textures are left in pencil to soften the lines when color is applied.

Finally finished in color! Plenty of challenging lighting effects and details in this piece. Here we see Kaneshia resting while lost in thought in an old temple located somewhere in the Mountains that border her home country. Some of her clothing such as the bright green skirt is woven from a luminescent cloth.
